The internal combustion can seem simple enough: take some gas, some air, mix it together, and blow it up. But the reality of moving cylinders, crankshafts, camshafts or pushrods, intake and exhaust valves, not to mention a host of external engine components for good emissions and auxiliary systems… the point is that no matter how simple an engine could seem in theory, things get very complicated very quickly in practice. The modern internal combustion engine is a seriously sophisticated machine.
